Samoa Air has introduced a little extra room for its plus-sized customers.

The Pacific airline has launched an extra-large seating class for passengers who weigh more than 130kg.

Samoa Air boss Chris Langton said given that almsot 60 per cent of Samoas population was considered obese, the move made sense.

Last year the airline claimed a world first with its "pay as you weigh" flights which says overweight passengers pay more for their seats.

"This is the fairest way of travelling," Langton said. "There are no extra fees in terms of excess baggage or anything - it is just a kilo is a kilo is a kilo."
