Airport lounges can ease some of the pain of travelling, and the SUMAQ VIP lounge of Lima's international airport has been voted the world's best for 2010 by independent airport lounge programme Priority Pass.

Priority Pass, the world's biggest membership programme that gives frequent travellers access to airport lounges regardless of their class of travel or which airline they've flown, asked more than 30,000 passengers from all over the world to pick their favourite lounge from among a 600-strong list.

The lounge at Peru's Jorge Chavez International Airport came up tops, reclaiming its 2009 position, with travellers praising its business facilities and relaxation rooms that have blankets, pillows and showers.

"The awards reflect truly exemplary service standards from the SUMAQ VIP Lounge and our other award winners," Jonathan French, head of brand at Priority Pass, said in a statement.

By region, Continental Presidents Club, Terminal E, Houston, Texas, was voted the best lounge in North America and Zurich's Panorama Lounge the best in Europe.

In the Asia Pacific, KAL Lounge, Concourse A, in Seoul's Incheon Airport was in first place while Bahrain's Dilmun Lounge was the top in the Middle East and Africa.

Try Honolulu, where we couldnt even get into ANY lounge for 6 hours. Once inside it was average. Sydney qantas lounge was poor, be alright for poor people though.

The lounge in Wellington airport is a joke. The best lounge in the world is the QANTAS First Class Lounge in Sydney and Melbourne. The Koru Lounge is now open to anyone who buys an airfare, so you figure the standard.

The new lounge at Wellington Airport is fab! All new and open to all the public so no need for a specific membership like some lounges. Great food and drinks, Sky TV, computers and even showers.

Most Emirates lounges I've been to are great. Best would be the Singapore business class lounge in the newer terminal at Changi (T3 I think). Air NZ's are average in comparison. Recently used Auckland domestic, no hot food during the day, only still wine in the frigo, and the coverings on the chairs (the kiwi batch theme) looked old and worn. Time for a change Rob.

Why bother with airport lounges? How many people just don't care! In my opinion, the sooner I can get out of the airport the better, and NZ lounges are definitely nothing to write home about. Go travel overseas, and Australia does not count.

Cathay First Class "The Wing"lounge in Hong Kong is top class(not any of their lounges at other airports, or even their second lounge in HK), and QANTAS first class lounges in Sydney and Melbourne are equivalent winners, though rather different. All of these lounges offer full meal service and top quality champagne. British Airways Terminal 5 First Class lounge is also in the same class. Air NZ international lounges are rather second rate unfortunately, and Koru Club has gone way down in standard in the last year or so. All US airline lounges are the bottom of the barrel, just like their flights, and Air China matches them exactly. I agree that Singapore Airlines lounges are far below the standard of the rest of their service. A lounge doesn't have to be extremely expensive to run in order to be good, you just need to feel comfortable, relaxed, and looked after when waiting several hours between flights. The article on top lounges is clearly only dealing with pay lounges, not considering airline ones which are much better.

Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada is the only airport I've ever seen that has an indoor childrens' play area ... sort of like a McDonald's play area.

Wish I could afford to go in airport lounges when I travel, especially for the 12 hour layovers. But then I'm just blessed and excited to be able to fly places at all.
