Selfies aren't new, but love them or loathe them, the craze is here to stay - with nearly one in two Kiwis confessing they take holiday selfies, according to travel website Wotif.
Over 1500 Kiwis were surveyed and the results showed that while Gen Y were the most prolific holiday selfie snappers, travellers of all ages were guilty of snapping a selfie.
"Almost half of the Kiwis surveyed admitted to taking holiday selfies, with 45 per cent revealing they take one or more per day, when on a trip," Wotif's spokesperson Kirsty La Bruniy said.
While the holiday selfie could be found on most Gen Y travellers' phones, the travel selfie was also embraced by Gen X and not completely shunned by baby boomers.
"More than 80 per cent of people aged between 18 and 29 take holiday selfies. While only 27 per cent of those aged 50 years and over were likely to take a selfie on holiday." La Bruniy said.
Even though many Kiwi travellers admit to taking more than 10 selfies a day, we think very few could keep up with Kim Kardashian who reportedly took more than 1000 on her holiday, or Mortao Maotor, the world's biggest selfie taker.
"Travellers and celebs alike have jumped on board the selfie photo bandwagon. With everything from mirror selfies to the latest hairy armpit selfie trend, it's only a matter of time before cameras are ditched entirely in favour of phone selfies on holiday." says La Bruniy.
According to Wotif, these are the top 5 selfies to take while on holiday:
THE ICON SELFIE If you're travelling solo, or just want to do it for fun, take a photo with the nearest icon on your next holiday, whether it's the Eiffel tower or the Big Pineapple.
THE FEET SELFIE Snap your toes on holiday, with a sandy beach or resort pool in the background.
TAKE A 'USIE' See how many of your travel buddies you can squeeze into a group selfie photo, also dubbed the 'usie'.
THE UNDERWATER SELFIE Get selfie snapping while you're snorkelling or diving with an underwater camera.
THE SPRING OR AUTUMN SELFIE Find your favourite patch in the nearest park and take a head shot surrounded by flowers or on a bed of autumn leaves.
