With Easter and Anzac Day falling so close together, Kiwis can have 12 days off for just five days.

With the beach days of Christmas a far, distant memory, it's hard to feel motivated at work. And while we had a good run of public holidays over the past couple of months, Easter seems a long way off.

But all is not lost. After a sneaky look ahead at the public holiday calender, we have figured out that for just five days of annual leave, Kiwis can have a whopping 12 days off in a row.

Here's how it works.

Make the most of your annual leave by planning in advance.

With Easter and Anzac Day falling so close together, you can have 12 days off if you just book April 18-21 and April 24 off. This is provided you don't work weekends and automatically get public holidays off (spare a thought for the shift workers).

This is down to Good Friday (April 14) and Easter Monday (April 17) being closely followed by Anzac Day (Tuesday, April 25).

If you want to be really prepared, you can plan long weekends around the Queen's Birthday (Monday, June 5) and Labour Day (Monday, October 23).

And with only 301 days until Christmas, it's never too early to think about your next summer holiday. For just three days of annual leave (Wednesday, December 27 to Friday, December 29), you can get 11 days off in a row.  You can thank us later.

Meanwhile, new research has shown that 55 per cent of Kiwis feel they deserve more annual leave and 76 per cent would give up sex and booze just to have one extra day leave... but only for a week.

The study, conducted by Expedia, found that New Zealanders rank third in the world for willing to give up sex for a week in order to have one extra day holiday, following Finland and Sweden.

"Holidays are good for us. After all, taking time to discover new places, engage in activities and spend time with family and friends is an ideal way to recharge," travel expert Lisa Perkovic said.

"The study shows that Kiwis see the benefits that holidays provide with a significant shift in New Zealanders making the most of their annual leave for the first time in three years. Perhaps what's even more surprising is that more than half of Kiwis believe they deserve more holidays than they currently get."
