The end of October is a great time to travel as the weather is warming up however be aware that Melbourne can experience four seasons in one day. But that's just another great reason to purchase a fashionable coat while you're there!
This is a great city to discover on foot, the city will be particularly abuzz with Melbourne Cup fever in anticipation of the early November festival.
Love to shop? Melbourne is a haven for top designers, boutiques and luxury stores. DFOs are on offer; and for something a bit different then catch the train down to Chapel St or catch a tram (or walk as it's not far) to Fitzroy for new designer options.
Are you a culture vulture? The multiple theatres are alive with musicals and plays, there's always something on.
You're a foodie? There are more restaurants than days in a year. Melbourne is a melting pot of cultures and this is reflected in its restaurants, cafés, bistros and bars, feast on a dizzying spread of the world's great cuisines.
With so many funky laneways to explore, try a laneways tour to discover loads of boutiques, restaurants, cool bars and hole-in-the-wall cafés. Centre Place, Degraves St & Crossley St are some of the most popular.
Or jump on the famous city tram for a quick ride out to some of the cool city fringe suburbs like Brunswick, Fitzroy, Prahran & St Kilda for dining and a spot of shopping.
Plus markets are scattered across the city and are hugely popular. Some favourites include Queen Vic for fresh produce and cheese and South Melbourne Market for amazing food.
