Kiwi Jeremy Burfoot and his four companions have made it as far as the Serbian capital of Belgrade, as they try to jet ski 32,000 kilometres from London to Auckland.
Ten days into the four-month trip they have made good progress since they set off from the River Thames in London on August 1.
According to the group's blog, they were knocked about on a choppy crossing of the English Channel but had made good progress through Germany and Austria, using canals and the Rhine and Danube rivers.
The weather had been a bit cold and miserable but the German police were "absolutely fantastic", Mr Burfoot said. "They've been letting other craft on the waterways know to keep out the way of the jet-skiing lunatics and have offered to help us on our way."
The men, Mr Burfoot, Travis Donoghue, Jed Martin, Ivan Otulic and Adrian Erangey, are riding standard-sized jet skis.
They will now head to Croatia and into the Black Sea before continuing on to Turkey, the Suez Canal and the Red Sea, which will take them to Yemen, Oman, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and down to Singapore and Australia.
Mr Burfoot expected to reach Auckland toward the end of November. NZPA
