Tourists take a jet boat detour as driver rushes to save a drowning wallaby
A group of tourists have had an unforgettably Aussie experience, after their jet boat driver rescued a drowning wallaby during a journey off the Gold Coast.
GC Jet Boating driver Jamie Earley was taking the group on a tour near South Stradbroke Island on Friday when he spotted the small animal jump in the water as a dog chased it from the island.
"It was with an afternoon tour but [I] thought 'I've got to do something about this'," he told the Gold Coast Bulletin.
Earley took his boatload of tourists on a detour as he maneuvered up to the wallaby and hauled it on board.
"It was really relaxed, I put him on the dash of the boat, he was just chilling out. Then we just took him back to shore," Earley said.
He snapped a smiling photo with the animal, then lifted it off the boat, and it hopped away along the beach.
Earley said he later notified local rangers to keep an eye on the wallaby.
