Kiwis grab cheap beach breaks
New Zealanders hunt for cheap, low-fuss beach holidays, according to a new travel survey.
The global Expedia report found the beach was not the top destination for Kiwis to pick, because they are more adventurous than their international counterparts.
But when they do opt for a beach holiday, most New Zealanders’ top destinations are Fiji, Gold Coast, and Rarotonga, for around six days.
Over 60 per cent of Kiwis were planning to take an international beach destination holiday in the next year.
For company, they would most likely take a spouse or partner with them rather than family or friends, but visiting friends and family is the favourite reason to holiday.
In preparation, Kiwis spend under $100 to get ‘‘beach ready’’, and overlook working out, waxing, or dieting to buy a new outfit instead.
When they get there, they spend from $600-$1200, compared to Australians who spend from $1200-$2400.
Losing a wallet is the biggest concern for holidaying Kiwis.
Walking, swimming, and reading are the favourite beach activities, and sleeping in and napping the best holiday indulgence.
