Fog has lifted at Auckland Airport but flights are still experiencing the flow-on effects of this morning's fog.

An Auckland Airport spokesman said fog restrictions at the airport were lifted at 7.47am.

However, some flights were still delayed and a number of domestic flights had been cancelled.

It was not clear when flights would return to schedule but their airlines were working hard to get things back on track, he said.

At 8.15am six domestic regional arrivals and six domestic regional departure flights had been cancelled.

This morning, 24 domestic regional arrivals and 24 domestic regional departures were delayed but main-trunk flights and international flights were on time.

In Hamilton, one flight to Wellington has been cancelled and other flights to Wellington, Christchurch, Palmerston North and Auckland delayed.

The clear, cool and still weather in Hamilton has played havoc with scheduled departures during the past two days.

Yesterday the thick mist affected all flights from 7am and resulted in one cancelled flight and four on the ground ready to go when the fog cleared.

MetService said the mist hanging around Auckland airport was expected to clear by 9am but the fog would stay in the Waikato until about 11am.
