Troubled replacement Interislander ferry the Stena Alegra will have its sailings cut to one a day from Thursday.

Interislander operator KiwiRail said, as it was a quiet time of year for passengers, some of the masters who sail the ferry would be rostered off as they had deferred leave in the last few months.

The Stena Alegra, itself a replacement for the damaged Aratere, suffered a broken propeller and was out of action for six days earlier this month.

There would be two round trips to one a day from Thursday through to Wednesday next week, May 28.
