Auckland Airport was temporarily empty this afternoon when a false alarm forced an evacuation.

The alarm was triggered about 1.50pm.

All staff and passengers had to leave the domestic terminal but were able to return just after 2.20pm, an airport spokesman said.

He said there would be minor delays to some flights, and said passengers should check the Auckland Airport website for details.

The cause of the false alarm was still being looked into, he said.
