Fog has cleared from Auckland airport, and flight restrictions there have been lifted.

A small number of regional flights to and from the airport had earlier been cancelled or delayed by the thick fog, which blanketed parts of Auckland this morning.

The airport said that all restrictions had been lifted by 9am.

International flights had not been affected.

Fog was thickest in the north-eastern parts of the city, and was still making driving conditions difficult in some areas.

MetService said a freshening northerly should clear the fog as the morning progressed.

Ferry operator Fullers said there would be some delays on its services this morning due to the heavy fog on Auckland harbour.
