Dozens of flights to and from Auckland Airport have been cancelled or delayed due to fog over the city.

An airport spokeswoman said while jet operations were continuing as usual, some regional flights were affected.

Flights from Hamilton, Whangarei, New Plymouth, Whakatane, Napier and Nelson were either delayed or cancelled.

MetService forecaster Daniel Corbett said the the fog should not last long and the sun was already dispersing it.

"It looks pretty thin. Give it an hour or two and we will have a decent day."

Earlier this month Auckland's worst fog in 20 years disrupted the plans of thousands of airline passengers travelling through Auckland Airport over a two-day period.

More than 100 flights were affected on a single day.

Airport monitors show today's fog is not as thick as it was earlier this month.

A spokeswoman said anyone travelling through Auckland today should check flight information first.
