Low cloud is causing chaos at Wellington Airport.

More than 50 flights in and out of Wellington have been delayed or cancelled this afternoon due to the weather.

The cancellations and delays are expected to continue into this evening, with many services from regional airports already cancelled.

Air New Zealand spokeswoman Brigitte Ransom said low cloud led to the cancellation of ''link'' services on smaller planes.

"Some jet services have also been delayed as a result, but have been operating.''

She said the cloud had ''lifted somewhat'' but was still causing problems.
