An Air New Zealand plane heading from Wellington to Auckland was forced to turn back this morning because of a cracked windscreen.

The 7.54am flight turned around shortly after take off, an Air New Zealand spokeswoman said.

"There was a minor crack in the cockpit window."

The passengers were put on other flights, and have since arrived in Auckland.
