A passenger on board a plane forced to make an emergency landing spent what he thought could be his final moments tweeting selfies.

The Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 superjumbo jet flying from London to Singapore was forced to make an emergency landing in Azerbaijan, after losing pressure at altitude.

Oxygen masks were deployed as passengers waited nervously as the plane made safely back to the ground.

Just after the landing, Twitter went mad with pictures including those from Nathan Phelps, who works in Perth, with the  caption "The moment when I thought it was all over!"

Conditions on board the flight during the landing were "somber with a lot of teary eyes, eerily quiet and then relief when he told us that we were going to be fine", he tweeted.

A replacement plane was sent to take the passengers on the next leg of their journey.
