Getting around Mystery Creek can burn calories but there's a range of food options to top up energy levels.

From wieners to Hungarian bread puffs, paua fritters to hot roast, it can be found at Fieldays - there are even vegan and gluten-free options.

And for fans of a liquid lunch, the liquor on offer ranges from beer at the bar to stands of Italian limoncello.

Vegetarian and vegan meals may not be the stereotypical farmer's choice, but catering team One Love said people who tried their food often came back.

"An older lady, her husband said 'Oh, I'll go nest door and get a beef burger or something'. Then three minutes later he came back for a samosa [from us] because she'd talked him into it. So apparently they enjoyed them," owner Dhruva Reid said.

While not everyone at Fieldays was game for a taste of One Love, many of those who tried it came back.

But Simon Friend of Cambridge made a more standard Kiwi choice for his Fieldays lunch yesterday.

"I had a roast -pork-with-crackling bun from one of the stalls. It was really good. And I washed it down with a whitebait fritter," he said.

That hearty meal hadn't stopped him checking out a variety of meats and cheese in the Kiwi's Best Kitchen area.

And the fast food chains' reach even extends to Fieldays in the form of a Subway trailer.

That was the lunch plan for Montesha Perawiti, 15, and friends from Te Kuiti High School.

One of the girls hadn't enjoyed a $9 burger she bought from a stall earlier, so they were sticking to a tried and true option.
