Thieves with a penchant for designer clothes have stripped a Matamata store only days after it shifted premises.

The RV Room moved into the town's CBD last week from Rawhiti Base and had only been in their new shop two days when brazen thieves broke in.

Thousands of dollars worth of clothing, shoes, electronics, cameras and money was taken.

Owner Gayleen Moss is now urging people to be on the lookout for the top-end clothing, including labels like Trelise Cooper, which were swiped in the raid by thieves who appear to have known what they were after.

After finding the door jimmied open last Wednesday, Moss said the break in had left her feeling sick and staff were devastated.

"A lot of the clothes are unique because we bring them in from America and we're the only people in New Zealand that do, so there's a lot of unique clothing that is very recognisable," she said.

All the store's lay-by bags, filled with items customers were paying off, were also taken. Moss believes the thieves knew what they were after.

"They knew the expensive stuff."

Burnside said it was disappointing because they were so excited to be open on Arawa St.

"We were excited to be here and a part of it so it's really devastating for us."

Moss said she and her staff were remaining positive and had received lots of support.

"It has been incredible. We are not letting these thieves beat us and security systems have been drastically boosted to combat further hits."

If you have any information about the break-in call Matamata police on 07 888 7117.
