It could be Lido of Brian. Or maybe The Hoyts Grail. Then again, it might be both.

The final show by the Monty Python's Flying Circus team will be screened at a cinema in Hamilton on August 6 - although the distributors don't know exactly which cinema just yet.

That's because negotiations with cinema companies up and down the country for the historic show are still being worked through, Rialto Distribution accounts manager Stephanie Franzos said.

"However we can definitely say it will be coming to Hamilton on August 6."

When the surviving members of Monty Python deliver their final performance on July 20 in London the show will be a global event, broadcast live to more than 2000 cinemas and on TV screens in more than 100 countries.

Many southern hemisphere countries, including New Zealand, will have to wait a few weeks until that last hurrah makes it onto the big screen on this country.

Those unable to get a cinema seat need not fret. TVNZ spokeswoman Georgie Hills said the show would be broadcast on TV One, although she was unable to give a date.

The surviving Pythons - who after the death of Graham Chapman in 1989 are Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Michael Palin, John Cleese and Terry Gilliam - reunited this year for a 10-show season at London's O2 Arena.

The Pythons were credited with creating a new type of comedy with their brilliantly absurd TV show in the 1970s and in the later hit films Life of Brian and Holy Grail.
