A woman is in hospital with severe chest injuries after being trampled by her horse this morning.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called about 9am to a farm east of Te Kauwhata in Waikato.

The middle-aged woman had fallen off her horse and been trampled, a spokesman said.

She has been taken to Waikato Hospital.
