Fire fighters had to call for backup from as far away as Thames and Whangamata as they battled a house fire in Pauanui last night.
The house on Jackson's Claim, on the Coromandel resort's beachfront, was well ablaze when the Pauanui and Tairua brigades arrived about 10.40pm, Fire Service spokesman Scott Osmond said.
"They asked for backup from Whangamata and Thames," he said.
"They also asked for a fire investigator to attend [to find out what caused the blaze].
Firefighters remained on site for three hours and returned to douse a flareup early this morning. Osmond could not say how large the building was but he said nobody was injured.
