Two climbers slipped 100 metres on ice on Mount Ruapehu and had to be rescued by a helicopter on Saturday afternoon.
The Youthtown Rescue Helicopter dropped off two alpine rescue climbers and a paramedic at 2400m to stabilise the injured climbers, and a 29-year-old Palmerston North man was then taken to Rotorua Hospital for further treatment.
He suffered head and abdominal injuries and was transported the next day to Waikato Hospital by the Westpac Waikato Air Ambulance.
