A person was hospitalised with critical injuries after the car they were travelling in crashed south of Huntly yesterday.
Two vehicles, a car and an SUV, crashed on State Highway 1, about 2kms south of Huntly, in peak hour traffic just after 5pm.
One person suffered critical injuries and underwent surgery at Waikato Hospital last night.
Another person suffered minor injuries.
The road was closed and diversions put in place as the police serious crash unit investigated.
Meanwhile, a person escaped serious injury after their car crashed into a tree near Taupo last night.
The occupant wasn't trapped after the crash on Tiriti Rd, Kaingaroa, north east of Taupo at 10pm.
