Six year-old spots fire
Hamilton firefighters have praised the actions of a young girl after noticing a fire at her neighbour's garage.
Hamilton Senior Station Officer Steve Sweeney said the girl, aged 6, was looking out the window of her Ruakiwi Rd house yesterday afternoon when she noticed smoke coming from her neighbour's garage.
She immediately ran to her mother who called 111.
Mr Sweeney said the girl then helped direct firefighters to a small fire in the garage.
He said the fire was still small when they arrived which was down to the girl's quick actions.
"She did everything right. It's great that she knew to go and tell her mother straight away and call emergency services. She's a clever girl."
Police and fire safety officers are investigating the fire as it is suspicious.
