The defending champion Chiefs will start and finish their Super Rugby campaign next year on the road.
The draw announced by Sanzar today has the Chiefs opening their season with an away game against the Highlanders in Dunedin on Friday, February 22, and then finishing on Saturday, July 13, against the Blues at a Blues venue yet to be confirmed.
The Chiefs will avoid the Bulls from the South Africa Conference and the Brumbies from the Australia Conference in the 2013 competition.
Next year's competition will see the Australian teams kick off round one earlier than the rest on February 15-16 in order to leave a bigger international window later to cater for the British and Irish Lions tour of Australia. The other conferences get into action in round two.
The Chiefs' first home game will be in round three against the Cheetahs on Saturday, March 2, and then head off on their South African sojourn for away matches against the Stormers and newly promoted Kings.
Other home games for the Chiefs will include the Highlanders, Blues, Reds, Sharks, Force, Crusaders and Hurricanes in that order before finishing with two away matches.
The Chiefs' first bye is on the weekend of April 5-6 and the second falls immediately before the international window, meaning they will have a five-week break in the middle of the competition.
