Wedding photographer wins award
''Weird, creepy and quirky all at the same time''JENNA LYNCH
Waihi wedding photographer Jake Thomas has taken out the Wedding Creative category of the 2012 Iris Awards for photography.
The competition is run by the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography (NZIPP) and requires entrants to supply a maximum of four images to be judged by a panel of distinguished NZ and overseas photographers.
Mr Thomas said he was honoured to receive the award.
''It feels awesome to be recognised by your peers in the industry,'' he said.
One of Thomas' winning shots shows a bride holding an axe, which he described as ''weird, creepy and quirky all at the same time''.
''I showed a few photographers the image before I entered it, and none of them would give me a straight answer about it, so it was a bit of a risk.''
The Iris Awards have been held annually for more than 30 years, and celebrates excellence in the photography industry.
