The name of a Canadian tourist killed in a crash on a Waikato road last week has been released.

She was 46-year-old Catherine Elizabeth Clarke of British Columbia.

Thames Strategic Traffic Unit Sergeant Jim Corbett said she died in a T-bone smash at the intersection of SH25 and SH2 about 1:30pm on Thursday.

The driver of the car she was travelling in, a 50-year-old Canadian man, will appear in the Thames District Court today on a charge of careless driving causing death.

''Waikato Police would like to express their sympathies to Ms Clarke's family and friends for their loss in these tragic circumstances and we would ask that all motorists [driving] our region's roads do their utmost to prevent further tragedies such as this,'' Mr Corbett said.
