Mr Lynam said Hamilton Police officers were called to Waikato Hospital shortly before 10pm on Saturday following the boy's death.

The police would not divulge anymore information on the boy's death expect to say it had been reported to the coroner.

The New Zealand Herald reported this morning that Caleb lived at the rented property with his parents Philip and Pip Steel, who are in the process of building a new house on behind the property.

A family spokesperson said it was a "tragic accident" and that Caleb was a "real charmer" who was loved by everyone.

Caleb's funeral will be held tomorrow at Life Church, in Kent St, Frankton.

Meanwhile, police have named a motorcyclist killed in a crash on State Highway 1, north of Rangiriri, on Sunday. He was Ashley Keith Smith, 40, of Northland.

His death brings the Waikato police district's road toll to 42, compared 49 for the same time last year.

Caleb's death is not included in the toll as it happened on a private road.

Mr Lynam expressed his condolences to both families and with the busiest period on the District's roads still to come, urged all motorists to drive to survive no matter whether they are on or off the roads.
