Celebrity chef heads home for festival
Celebrity chef Josh Emett will return home to the Waikato early next year to take part in the Waikato Times Food & Wine Festival.
The former Melville High School student will make a guest appearance at the festival which will take place at the Claudelands Green on February 16 and 17.
''It is my first time at the festival and I'm really looking forward to it,'' he said.
On both days Emett will conduct cooking demonstrations for festival goers who will also get the chance to interact with the MasterChef New Zealand judge and restaurant owner who plans to cook dishes from his new Queenstown based restaurant.
''The plan is to cook a few dishes from the Ratan menu and provide general tips for creating simple dishes with great produce.''
At the conclusion of each demonstration, Emett will also mix with guests in the BMW VIP marquee.
Beyond the festival Emmet plans to spend the majority of 2013 based in New Zealand.
''I'll divide my time between Auckland and Queenstown,'' he said. ''I have a book coming out next year and will be spending more time on the Chef Series which is the food range I have in supermarkets.''
The range of gourmet meals, ready in 15 minutes and serving 2-3 people, include pork ribs and marinated chicken wings, and Emett said he and his team were now working on a new lamb rib dish.
For now Emett is looking forward to spending Christmas with his family where his 'wishlist' includes clothes, books, a trip to Spain and, not surprisingly, ''lots of excellent food.''
