A man was taken to Waikato Hospital this morning with serious injuries following a single car crash on the outskirts of Matamata.
Northern fire communications shift manager Megan Ruru said emergency services were called to the scene on State Highway 24 at 4.39am.
"We had reports of one car versus a tree with a male patient severely trapped who needed to be extricated," she said.
A St John ambulance spokesman said the male patient, understood to be 21, was transported to Waikato Hospital with status two injuries.
