Hurricane-hit Samoa was a flight too far for Hamilton's Greenlea Premier Meats rescue helicopter, so the company's staff are packing a container with food for the families of their Samoan colleagues.
The export processor has 31 staff with family in Samoa. Around 400 staff are contributing tinned and other food to the effort, and the company is topping up the container with 900 tins of corned beef from associate McCallum Industries, and sacks of flour and rice from its local Dinsdale Bin Inn.
Greenlea managing director Tony Egan said the company has arranged for a bishop and families to meet the container when it arrives in Samoa.
