A 21-year-old Taupo man has been arrested and charged with assault after a road-rage incident that put a cyclist in hospital.
Police said that about 12.45pm yesterday a 49-year-old man was training for his eighth Taupo Ironman competition in Broadlands Rd, Taupo.
A ute overtook a car into the path of the cyclist who gestured at the ute driver.
The driver then turned around and chased the cyclist before he pulled over further up the road.
The cyclist rode around the vehicle, at which point the driver allegedly chased him on foot and pushed him off his bike.
The cyclist was flown to Rotorua Hospital, suffering serious pelvic injuries and a broken collarbone. He is in a stable condition in hospital.
