Fatal hit-and-run accused in court
A Pukete woman charged with crashing into a vehicle that killed an elderly woman on Christmas Day has appeared in court.
Jonelle Ann Williams, 26, faces charges of possession of the class A drug, LSD, driving while suspended and failing to stop and ascertain injury at a fatal crash on December 25, last year.
Williams made a brief appearance in Hamilton District Court this morning where she was remanded without plea to reappear next month.
Williams was allegedly the driver of a vehicle which crashed into another vehicle carrying 71-year-old Chinese national Rongmei Wang. The crash happened at the intersection of Avalon Dr and Te Rapa Rd, outside Burger King.
The vehicle Mrs Wang was travelling as a back seat passenger in was allegedly T-boned by Williams car.
Williams then allegedly drove off. She was later found by police at her Pukete home with the car believed to have been driven in the crash.
Four of Mrs Wang's family members who were also in the car were also taken to Waikato hospital for assessment and treatment.
