A dog that attacked a teenage girl and killed another girl's pet puppy at Whangamata has been destroyed.
It struck first on January 6, causing significant injuries to the girl, and the following day.
Thames Coromandel District Council spokesman Steve Hart said the owner did the right thing after a protracted hunt for the German wirehaired pointer.
The animal was put down at the end of last week.
