Police are investigating an armed robbery at a Hamilton TAB on Saturday night.

The TAB at the Hamilton Workingmen's Club in Commerce St, Frankton, was robbed, a police spokesman at Hamilton police station said.

The location was taped off by police yesterday morning as an investigation got under way.

When the Waikato Times visited the scene on yesterday afternoon, the TAB was back to normal but manager James Cunneen was not at work.

A staff member said she had been instructed not to comment to the media and Cunneen was unable to be contacted because his phone was stolen during the robbery.

Police are expected to issue more details, including whether any cash was stolen, tomorrow.
