Protest hijacks speech
A visiting sharemarket analyst to the Waikato got a Maori welcome he wasn't expecting this afternoon when three opponents of the Government's proposed partial sale of Mighty River Power hijacked his presentation to investors.
Forsyth Barr's head of research Rob Mercer from Wellington was telling around 100 sharemarket investors the few details that are available about the proposed offer when the trio, calling themselves representatives of The Mighty River Power People, took the floor at the Hamilton's SkyCity casino, scattering mock bloodstained US dollar bills, branding the Government "shameful" and demanding recognition of the Treaty of Waitangi.
While shaken Forsyth Barr representatives summonsed SkyCity security, the investor audience, many retired, reacted angrily to the intrusion, demanding the trio leave.
The three left shouting "shame on you".
