One of Hamilton's most distinctive commercial buildings, the nearly century-old riverside former Maori girls hostel at 4 Bryce St, left, is being offered for lease by Tainui Group Holdings (TGH).
TGH has moved its headquarters next door into a $2.5 million refurbishment at 6 Bryce St, leaving behind high-quality corporate offices with their hallmark wood-panelled walls.
A small adjacent house is also being offered for commercial lease.
TGH chief executive Mike Pohio said the big house, which the company values at nearly $2m, has nine rooms upstairs, a boardroom and corporate reception area downstairs, along with another four rooms and a kitchen-dining area.
The neighbouring small house has also been renovated to corporate standard and has five rooms.
The late Maori queen Te Arikinui Te Atairangikaahu stayed at the hostel when she attended Waikato Diocesan School for Girls, Pohio said.
The 1920s building underwent extensive refurbishment by TGH in 2003 and 2004 and is renovated to 100 per cent of current building standards.
The property is being marketed by Collier's agent Mark Brunton.
