Goodman Fielder has confirmed the closure of its Hamilton Huttons/Kiwi Bacon factory in Frankton and the loss of 125 jobs.
Workers were called to a company meeting at 7am today and given the news from Goodman Fielder NZ Managing Director, Peter Reidie, FIRST Union General Secretary Robert Reid said.
"There was a combination of disappointment and relief amongst workers," he said.
On January 8 workers were told of the sale of Goodman Fielder's NZ Meat Division to Hellers.
The workers were told that the sale was for the brands only and the Hamilton production site would close by the end of March 2014.
A union bid to keep the plant open was rejected.
