Hamilton bowlers will celebrate news that the city's only 10-pin bowling alley will remain open.

SkyCity will retain ownership of the Bowlevard, which is located in the Victoria St casino complex.

The 20-lane bowling alley has been operating since SkyCity was expanded in 2002 and is frequented by league and competitive bowlers as well as casual players.

SkyCity decided to sell the business in August last year after the company's annual report showed flat revenue. A proposed $35 million hotel development was put on hold at the same time.

At the time, SkyCity Hamilton general manager Tessa Grant said the company was selling in order to focus on its core business.

Grant said the company had been searching for a local buyer. The change in strategy has come after an internal review of the Hamilton operation.

"We have decided to keep this facility, and we're delighted to keep it here and accessible to the Hamilton community," she said.
