Overseas parties interested in making cheese or long-life milk are among those eyeing a former cheese factory and coolstore for sale in Kerepehi on the Hauraki Plains.

Bayleys Hamilton manager commercial and industrial Jim McKinlay said inquiries from China dairy interests were among a "good early response" to the marketing of the Town Rd property, once owned by the former New Zealand Dairy Group that was absorbed in the creation of Fonterra.

Built in 1980, the property was at the time a state-of-the-art factory, and is capable of being recommissioned to the same, or related, use, McKinlay said.

Tanner Sawmills is now the owner of the site.

The plant is on a separate 2-hectare title to the rest of Tanner's property next door.

The capital valuation is $680,000 and the site zoning is industrial.

McKinlay said other inquiries have included food and petfood manufacturers and parties that just want the cool stores. The two-storey plant includes a laboratory, offices, reception, staff/board room and kitchen.

The property is being offered for sale by tender that closes on May 30.
