Xbox Smartglass, picked by Gorilla Technology's Paul Spain , host of NZTechPodcast.com

If your household is one of the thousands in New Zealand with an Xbox then you may find your smartphone just got smarter.

The Xbox Smartglass app exists so you can use your smartphone (iPhone, Android or Windows Phone) or Tablet (iPad or Windows 8) to control your Xbox.

The reason this is useful is because the Xbox in recent months has grown to be more than a gaming console for Kiwis. Entertainment functions such as Quickflix TV and movie streaming, Xbox Music and Internet Explorer all can be operated from the phone. Browsing the web on your Xbox is much easier now as you can use the keyboard on your phone rather than a clumsy keyboard on your TV screen. And navigating around webpages can now happen by using your phone screen much like a touchpad.

Although its functionality is lacking in some regards, the Xbox Smartglass is worth trying and the price is right as it's a free download.
