Kiwi songstress Elizabeth Marvelly tells Chris Gardner why her Roland RD-300NX Digital Stage Piano is her favourite gadget.

What is your favourite gadget?

My Roland RD-300NX Digital Stage Piano.

What do you usually use it for?

I write most of my songs at the piano. I have a traditional grand piano, but it's too big to fit into my apartment! So while my parents babysit my grand, my Roland has become my musical best friend. A professional-standard stage piano, it's portable, reliable, sounds great, and can easily be used for recording by connecting up to an audio interface. I use my Roland to write songs; in fact, I'd guess I've written more than 50 songs on it. It also comes in handy when I have parties at my house and my friends decide that they want to have a singalong (usually quite late in the piece).

What would you do to improve it?

To be honest, it serves its purpose perfectly well. The only thing I'd change would be the headphones I use with it. I have my eye on a pair of Ultrasone Signature Pros. I'd better start saving my pennies.
