Shannon can't wait to see la vida loca singer liveFLORENCE KERR
''Oh. My. God,'' is what a Hamilton mum of two said when she found her favourite singer is set to perform in Hamilton.
Shannon Gordon, 30, is ecstatic about the news the 'livin La vida loca' singer Ricky Martin is to perform at Hamilton's Claudelands Arena on April 19, 2015.
''I'm so stoked. I woke up and found all my friends had tagged me on Facebook about him coming. I really can't wait.''
Gordon said she is now looking for a friend to go because her husband is not a big fan of the smooth performer.
''I think a work mate will come with me,'' she said. ''I became a huge fan when I was 14. I remember just blasting his song Private Emotion on my stereo.''
Gordon was impressed that Claudelands Arena was able to secure the singer to perform in Hamilton.
The announcement comes two months after the arena confirmed Bob Dylan's two Hamilton shows in August. Gordon hopes to sway management at the arena to get other bands from her youth like Westlife and Backstreet Boys.
Director of Business Development and Marketing for Claudelands Murray Jeffrey said they were thrilled to secure a show by Ricky Martin in Hamilton.
''We've been in discussions with the promoter Nine Live for several months on this one, and to have it confirmed within weeks of our Bob Dylan announcement really does show what a world-class facility we have with Claudelands.
''By the time April 2015 rolls around, it will be the best part of 15 years since Ricky first visited New Zealand, so his fans should be very excited.''Jeffrey said his team are involved in conversations with other event promoters.
"We're hopeful we'll be confirming some other great events for Claudelands over coming months. We can't say much at the moment - except watch this space.''
The capacity for the Martin concert will be around the 6000 people at Claudelands.
Martin, who is Puerto Rican, last visited in October 2000, off the back of his massive worldwide hit Livin' La Vida Loca.
It hit No 1 in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland and New Zealand in 1999. In 2008, Puerto Rico declared August 31 to be International Ricky Martin Day.
"I am so excited to bring my new One World Tour to New Zealand next year and see all of my loving and loyal Kiwi fans after such a long, long time," Martin said. "I am looking forward to playing some new material that I have been working on this year, some of my classics and perhaps a few surprises."
He will play Vector Arena in Auckland on April 17; TSB Arena in Wellington on April 18, Claudelands Arena, Hamilton on April 19 and Christchurch on April 21.
