DVD review: Youth in Revolt

HIT AND MISS: Youth In Revolt is a missed opportunity for everyone involved.

After his comedy triumphs with Arrested Development, Juno and Superbad, lovable manboy Michael Cera has settled rather too comfortably into a rough patch containing more misses than hits.

The Canadian actor's latest effort, Youth in Revolt, isn't as bad as recent shocker Year One, but it's still a middling movie that will leave viewers imagining what could have been.

Revolt is a simple teenage love story with a twist that involves Cera's character Nick Twisp using a bad boy alter ego called Francois to win the heart of local girl Sheeni Saunders.

There are occasional moments - usually involving Francois' evil antics - that suggest Youth In Revolt could have been much better than it is.

But with heavyweights like Zack Galafianakis, Ray Liotta and Steve Buscemi woefully underused, Youth In Revolt is a missed opportunity for everyone involved.

I am making a film about a skinny un-attractive jewish boy with a frank spencer-ish demeanor, although i am concerned about the current market saturation in this genre do you think Michael Cera would be up for his fifth movie playing this role? yours sincerely
