BRING THE NOISE: Adam Lambert is set to perform in New Zealand for the first time.

Controversial American Idol star Adam Lambert is set to perform in New Zealand for the first time.

The singer, who was runner-up in the reality show's eighth season, will perform at Trusts Stadium in Auckland on October 17.

He promises to bring his full audio-visual show, with a set that combines 60s psychedelia, 70s disco and 80s glam-goth.

Lambert caused controversy at the American Music Awards last year with a sexually charged performance that included a kiss with his male keyboard player. Networks were flooded with complaints, but Lambert defended the show.

"I admit I did get carried away, but I don't see anything wrong with it. I do see how people got offended, and that was not my intention," he said.

"If it had been a female pop performer doing the moves that were on the stage, I don't think there'd be nearly as much of an outrage at all," Lambert added. "I think it's because I'm a gay male."

Tickets go on sale on September 13.

WOW, what a show tonight! Enjoyed every minute of it. He's a great entertainer and not just on tv, but live as well. His music moves, is full of passion and performed by a talented musician, supported by his team. Oh, and all the fuss about being gay? Who cares! A musician should be judged on his music, and by attending his show and doing just that, I can say I loved it.

Im an "older" fan and have been following Adam since he was on Idol, what a performer. Very talented, awesome voice, great personality. I am taking 2 of my daughters and hope he just "blows" us away with his charisma. I dont think American Idol will ever be the same because of Adam. Cant wait till Sunday, bit of a road trip for us too but all good.

Don't know why all the Chch people are complaining. I got tickets for two grand-daughters. Concert and return flights was only $200 ...you pay that just for a concert by anyone else, if not more.
