Modern Family actor Eric Stonestreet has squashed rumours that he and Charlize Theron are dating.
The 41-year-old actor, who today won an Emmy for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series, took to twitter to set the record straight.
"I wish people would stop spreading rumours that Charlize Theron and I are dating. Its starting to make Halle Berry jealous," he tweeted.
Fans expecting him to show up to the award show with the stunning 37-year-old actress were disappointed as he invited a friend instead.
"Today, I'm taking my best friend Paul to the Emmys. He dared me to audition for the first play I ever did at #kstate," he said.
Theron was introduced to Stonestreet - who plays gay dad Cameron Tucket in Modern Family - by mutual friends earlier this year.
Rumours of the relationship intensifying recently had spread.
"Charlize and Eric get along incredibly well. They started off as friends but things are blossoming between them," a source told British newspaper The Daily Mail.
"Eric is down to earth and funny and Charlize thinks the world of him. It's early days but they're very fond of each other."
It was recently revealed that Stonestreet had split from his long-term girlfriend Katherine Tokarz.
Although the news only broke a few days ago, they believed to have parted ways around nine months ago and Tokarz. is now engaged to writer-producer Bret Calvert.
Theron hasn't had a serious relationship since splitting from fiancé Stuart Townsend in 2010.
