Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet's New Zealand jaunt is continuing in merry fashion, with her telling one Picton fan that she just "looks like her".

Winslet hit the headlines earlier this week after going shopping in Masterton at Pagani and being spotted with Sir Peter Jackson, his daughter Katie and new husband Ned Rocknroll.

Winslet and Rocknroll were spotted leaving the Interislander ferry terminal and picking up a rental car yesterday after sailing south from Wellington on the Kaitaki ferry.

One witness said he asked the 37-year-old blonde English filmstar politely, "Are you Kate?".

Winslet, dressed in plain clothes and big dark sunglasses (Pagani perhaps?), replied with a friendly smile and quick as a flash said: "No, but I look like her."

Asked if he was Ned, her husband replied: "My name is Edward."

A nephew of billionaire Virgin Air founder Sir Richard Branson, Ned Rocknroll was born Edward Abel Smith in 1978. He became Winslet's third husband at a ceremony in New York late last year. He was previously married to British socialite Eliza Pearson.

An Interislander staff member who escorted the pair through the terminal to the car rental agency declined to confirm their identities and passed off the VIP treatment as "baggage issues". It was a busy sailing with about 1000 passengers, he said.
