Jon Egan carries his Bible with him as he, and fellow Desperation Band members, walk from a press conference to a one on one with The Waikato Times.

“I do (literally carry my Bible everywhere I go),” Mr Egan, lead singer of the Colorado Springs based band, says. “You never know when you’re going to need it.”

But the New American Standard Bible translation that he has sits on the table during our 10 minute chat.

The band, which is playing at 9.50pm tonight (Saturday) on the Palladium stage, and 6.50pm on the coveted Mainstage tomorrow (Sunday), has never been to New Zealand before let alone Parachute.

“We are already having a great time,” Mr Egan says one day into the four day festival.

Rather than fly from the US for one festival the band, which normally doesn’t spend more than three days away from its New Life Church home, will go on a two week speaking and teaching New Zealand tour.

Mr Egan can’t tell me too much about the tour, other than it will out them in touch with worship leaders and church pastors and the itinerary has been drawn up by the band’s record label, Integrity Music.

“We are doing that in Wellington, teaching, leading worship. We are passionate about Jesus, we love the presence of Jesus, we are passionate about praising God,” Mr Egan said.
