Welcome to the Thursday Throwback. It's where we troll through the extensive photo files in the library here at the Waikato Times to find something interesting.

After all, who doesn't like looking at old photos? We'd love to know if you remember this, know more about it or just plain think it's cool.

Wayne 'Smithy' Smith is currently masterminding the Chiefs plan to overcome his old team, the Crusaders. Smithy coached the Crusaders from 1997-99 and under his guidance they won the 1998-99 Super rugby competition but let's not forget the 45-year-old super coach was a pretty handy player back in the day.

The Putaruru-born first five-eighth played 35 games for the All Blacks, including 17 tests and scored 36 points. He made his All Blacks debut against Sydney in 1980 and his test debut the same year against Australia.

His last test was against Argentina in Buenos Aires in 1985. We're not sure where this photo is from or when it was taken but never mind that, what about the hair?
