POAKA AVE,  DINSDALE

There are three houses on Poaka Ave plastered in festive lights within walking distance of each other. If you are heading out to Temple View, take a wee detour to check them out. There's also another house decorated in Christmas lights down Grove Place, not too far from here. Turn down Poaka Ave, turn left onto Jasmine Ave and then right onto Grove Place. The lights looks great for the 30 seconds I was able to see - the home owner turned their lights off as I was getting out for a better view.

21 FIONA PLACE, DINSDALE

These lights will be on from tonight until Tuesday. There's lots of  lights, a snowman, reindeer - all good things if you ask me.

28 TE AWA LANE, TAMAHERE

So. Much. Awesome. Clive Hart's light display on his Tamahere property really is a labour of love - there's a quarter of a million lights. This year, Mr Hart is collecting gifts for the Child Cancer Foundation and asks that people give a little when they visit. This was up there with my favourite ones. You get to walk around the property and take it all in. There was a steady stream of cars pulling up to enjoy it too.

CORNER OF PEACOCKES ROAD AND PLATEAU DRIVE

I felt like I was staring into the Secret Garden: Christmas edition. Every inch of this home is decorated in lights - the house, the trees, the bushes. It looks fantastic and reminded me of a whimsical, mystical garden. Loved it.

59 BEERESCOURT RD

This one is the ultimate Christmas village. On Christmas Eve, there will be carols in the Garden from 8.15pm. People are welcome to bring a blanket or fold out chair for carols and singing.

TEMPLE VIEW

Where is all the Christmas cheer?  Why, in Temple View of course. When a community has 150,000 individual Christmas lights decorating more than 120 trees and other greenery plus a choir and Christmas carols, they've clearly got it. Going this display should be on your must-see list for 2013.

HARROWFIELD DRIVE LI GHTS

After driving around Hamilton in search for Christmas lights, which were few and far in between might I add,  I have a new found appreciation for Harrowfield. Hundreds of lights within a leisurely stroll of each other - why wouldn't you? Hamilton's balmy nights provide the perfect conditions for perusing the festive lights with the family or that special someone - mood lighting anyone? There's even a real santa at one of the houses - he's there between 8.30-10pm every night until Christmas.

133 BAVERSTOCK ROAD, ROTOKAURI

Did you see this on the website yesterday?  Mohis Chand, a Hamilton Boys' High School student, wired the Christmas lights at his Baverstock home to flash to the beat of eight songs, including Katy Perry and Avicii. It a stunning, fun display. Kudos to Mohis, who spent about two weeks perfecting the display for your viewing pleasure.

6 MERCURY CRESCENT, ROTOTUNA

The residents of this Rototuna home have decked their house out to the nines. The lawn is deocorated with reindeer, an inflatable santa and flashing lights hanging from their garage wall. The lawn ornaments and flashing lights compliment each other well and it would have to be one of my favourite Christmas light displays off the beaten track.

 21 FARRINGDON AVE, ROTORUNA

While you're in Rototuna taking a look at Mercury Cres, drive over to Faringdon Dr. Santa has ditched his sleigh for a new ride - the kind that has two wheels. This was another favourite display - complete with helicopter santa too. Not far from here, at 120 Discovery Dr, is another eye catching display, this time with a train.

 GRANDVIEW HEIGHTS

There's several houses (that I know of) worth checking out in this area. The first one is 181 Grandview Rd. I got a really beachy vibe from this place. Futher down the road, there's another on Glencoe Pl, off Bartholomew Drive. A bit further along on Lochniver Rd, also off Bartholowmew Dr. And then there's the Ayrshire Dr  lights, which actually scared me half to death. I was not expecting to see almost every each of window space jammed with Christmas dolls. Creeeeeeepy but still worth a drive-by.

Thank you to the poeple who sent in suggestions, much appreciated. I hope everyone has a merry Christmas and happy New Year.
